As the industry’s leading golf cart GPS system, Tagmarshal partners with more than 700 courses to deliver pace of play management and optimization technology that gets results.
Perfect for cart and walking golf, across daily fee, resort and private courses, Tagmarshal’s technology is used by 40 of the 100 US courses, as well as leading multi-course operators like Troon, KemperSports and Advance Golf.
Below, we will answer some of the most frequently asked questions about Tagmarshal’s golf cart GPS system. These will include how it works, the installation and setup process, what data is gathered by the set of features, and the device specifications.
As players move around the course, the GPS data collected by the tracking devices is sent to Tagmarshal’s secure cloud servers. Powerful algorithms process and analyze the data, using more than 10 dynamically calculated factors, and convert it into actionable insights.
The devices utilize GPS and cellular technology to convey tracking data. Tagmarshal engages with each course to establish cellular coverage, and if there are concerns raised, technicians will run signal tests ahead of deployment and installation. If the signal is poor, Tagmarshal has technology in place to assist.
The data gathered is displayed across Tagmarshal’s best-in-class, comprehensive feature set, providing management with the tools needed for data-driven decision-making, identifying opportunities for improvement and allowing operators to do more with fewer resources.
The Tagmarshal golf cart GPS system gives courses a proactive, data-driven approach to pace of play management. Many factors affect its impact on pace, but courses often see a 10-minute to 20-minute improvement in average round times within three months of using the system. From there, new goals and targets can be defined and worked towards.
As a playing group progresses, its location and pace of play are measured against various parameters and evaluated in relation to the rest of the field. Tagmarshal’s powerful algorithms, based on data from more than 75 million tracked golf rounds, pick up when a group is falling behind and alert management through a series of color-based alerts on the Tagmarshal Live Map. Alerts can also be set up to be sent via mobile phone or email.
Golf managers will be able to see whether a group is out of position and causing delays to other groups (delayer), versus a group that is out of position but affected by a delay (delayed).
Tagmarshal has a wide range of pricing options to suit every budget. Courses can get a quote via the Products and Pricing page.
The Tagmarshal contract length is 36 months.
This typically takes between 6 to 8 weeks from signing the contract, but it depends on seasonality, stock availability and technician capacity.
A Tagmarshal Customer Success Associate will guide operators through the onboarding process. While they are facilitating training, the course is mapped and set up, devices are ordered and configured, and the data gathered allows the golf cart GPS system’s algorithm the opportunity to ‘learn’ the course’s unique ebb and flow.
During this time, courses will have full use of the customized Live Map for tracking purposes, as well as the rest of Tagmarshal’s powerful feature set (including pace of play alerts, round and hole stats, the best-in-breed Analytics Hub and the building of player profiles).
Expert Tagmarshal technicians will perform installations. Each operator receives a project plan that will detail the technician being sent and the work that will be done during the technician’s visit.
Courses will also meet the technician before the installation so they can provide any specific details they need to be aware of, like who to speak with, hours of operation and any other important information.
No, Tagmarshal’s expert installers comply with cart manufacturer standards to ensure that the cart warranty is not affected by the installation.
No equipment installed that is system-related to Tagmarshal will negatively impact the value of your cart. We have a team of expert installers to ensure a seamless process.
Tagmarshal screens and devices can be installed in all major gas (petrol) and electric carts (E-Z-GO, Club Car, Yamaha and others).
Yes, it is possible. The costs will vary based on a variety of factors, such as the number of carts, location and cart type. If the course is still in contract with another provider, additional costs may apply to exit that agreement.
At the end of each season, operators receive an email and form to complete, asking if they require winterization of their devices. This can be a self-winterization process, or Tagmarshal can assist by providing a technician to do this for you.
Tagmarshal needs to be informed ahead of time that a fleet change is due. This will allow them to schedule a technician to perform the uninstallation of the old fleet and reinstallation into the new fleet. While the delivery date of a fleet is subject to change, pre-booking allows Tagmarshal to work with courses to manage the process effectively.
No, tracking is limited to on-course only, unless there is a cart theft or tracking is specifically requested by operators or the private cart owner.
Tagmarshal courses get access to a full software suite that includes a stylized Live Map of the course. The software is a cloud-based application available via any smart device, such as a PC, laptop, MacBook, tablet or mobile phone. The location of each tracking device is visible via the Live Map.
The golf cart GPS system’s powerful algorithm tracks playing groups (carts or walking) and evaluates their progress in relation to the prescribed pace and the rest of the field.
A green icon shows a group that is currently on pace, and a red icon shows a group that is behind pace, but not impacting any other groups.
An orange icon shows a group that is behind pace but being delayed by a group ahead of them, and a magenta (purple) icon shows a group that is delaying groups behind them and negatively impacting the course’s pace of play.
Yes, the system includes a player assistant tracking module, which allows management to view where their course staff are in real-time. It also shows where they have been throughout the day. Operators can also track where machinery is at all times, including full movement history.
The data of every round played is stored in Tagmarshal’s cloud-hosted database. Each course is given access to the full data range via an easy-to-use dashboard.
This enables course management to track and measure data like:
The golf cart GPS system’s geofencing module provides course management with the ability to set up fenced areas or ‘zones’, which can be toggled on or off as needed.
If a device (cart or walking) enters a geofenced area, staff are immediately notified of the breach and a historical record is also logged to inform any later conversations.
When a cart breaches a geofence, players are alerted via a message on the 2Way screen, a loud beeping noise, or both.
Yes, the system can track shotgun starts.
Tagmarshal integrates with more than 25 tee sheet providers, as well as other leading tech solutions like Golf Genius.
No, only one person or caddie per playing group needs to carry a tracking device. Carts can have the devices installed, meaning nobody carries a device.
A typical 18-hole walking course is equipped with 40 tracking devices. If the course has a cart fleet, it’s recommended that all are fitted with a device.
The number of tags then depends on the size of the fleet (usually between 60 to 80 tracking devices required).
The 2Way cart screen devices are available in 8inch and 10inch sizes.
The 2Way devices recharge automatically as they’re used.
No, data is included in the Tagmarshal product costs.
Tagmarshal’s Cart Stop feature will prevent carts that have breached a geofence from moving forward. They will only be able to reverse, with full movement restored once they exit the restricted area.
Yes, operators can send messages directly through the 2Way alerts feature. Players are also able to send messages to staff.
Yes, the golf cart GPS system allows for advertising. Courses can handle this themselves, or Tagmarshal Media can manage the entire process.
Yes, it’s possible to order F&B from the 2Way cart screens.
Tagmarshal’s 2Way screens are IP65 certified, which means they are splash-resistant and water-resistant, but not waterproof.
Screens are mounted below the cart canopy to reduce exposure to rain. Direct contact with liquids should be avoided and is not covered by the hardware warranty.
Expert Tagmarshal technicians perform installations to a careful, high-quality standard and methodology. For this reason, self-installations are not recommended as they may have an impact on device and cart warranty.
The tag dimensions are 6.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 centimeters, or roughly the size of a matchbox. They are housed in a pouch that clips easily onto golf bags.
It takes 4 to 5 hours to charge the Classic Mobile tags. They are best charged overnight, and Tagmarshal provides a multi-charging station to assist with this.
Tags will last up to 8 hours when fully charged, meaning they can record 2 18-hole rounds of golf.
Yes, each tag is equipped with a water-resistant pouch that protects it from water damage.
The warranty period for Tagmarshal devices is 36 months. In many cases, the devices outlast the warranty period. To ensure optimal performance, devices are sometimes replaced after each 36-month contract.
Tagmarshal also tests devices at the start of every season to ensure that they are performing optimally.
Tagmarshal provides each operator with device management guidance during the onboarding and training process. They also schedule device maintenance around seasonality and help operators ensure that devices are winterized correctly at the end of each season.
Operators experiencing any issues can log a ticket with Tagmarshal’s Support team. All devices are tested, refurbished and/or replaced as required under warranty.
When an operator signs up with Tagmarshal, a dedicated team is on hand to ensure that each step of the onboarding process occurs seamlessly.
From the technicians who assist with setup, through to the team of PGA-certified Customer Success Associates that assist with training and check in regularly to drive optimization, helping each course partner achieve their goals through the effective use of the golf cart GPS system is front and center.
