Quick 9: Jeff Mancini – North Bay
The North Bay Golf Club is a private club with a beautiful layout and breathtaking views of North Bay, designed by renowned Canadian architect Stanley Thompson, who also designed Tagmarshal partner courses, Royal Mayfair and Banff Springs.
In this Quick 9, we chat with, Director of Golf and General Manager, Jeff Mancini, who shares his golf experiences and what it takes to run one of Ontario’s top courses.
How would you describe your morning routine to kickstart your day?
I am an early riser and usually help open the shop. I enjoy taking member tee times at 7am. I usually hit the lesson tee around 7:30am to tackle a few private lessons before settling into my role as GM.
Has golf always been your first love? What other sports/team are you a fan of?
Hockey is my first true love. I enjoyed a dual professional role for a few years, playing semi-pro hockey in Southern US during the winter, then returning to my golf professional duties each summer. I am still active in hockey as the head coach of a AAA minor hockey team.
What is your favorite/greatest round of golf experience?
I was lucky enough to play Whistling Straits a couple of weeks after Jason Day’s PGA Championship victory at the course. The course and facilities became my favorite instantly.
Tell us about your role at North Bay? Why is it important?
I am the Director of Golf and GM at the North Bay GCC. As a golf-only facility, open 6 months of the year, it requires careful scheduling and optimization of course accessibility. We pride ourselves on 2 key elements – Pace of Play and Participation. Fast golf and full events.
Why has your course decided to invest in Tagmarshal?
Our membership has bought into the idea that Fast Golf leads to more play, more sales, and more happy people.
Since the implementation of the Tagmarshal system, how have your customers responded to the on-course experience?
Tagmarshal in my opinion works in a couple of ways, without saying anything, each member knows what the device represents and promotes an aware mentality when they start play. It also provides objective data that the staff can use to solve issues before they arise, in real-time, as well as to create reports.

What is your dream golf destination? Why?
I have played a number of NA’s best, but a trip to Old Head would be unreal.
Your best golf moment?
Let’s just say any trip with the boys.
If you could be a caddie on Tour, whose caddie would you like to be and why?
My friend Kurt caddies for Brendan Todd on tour currently. He was just in the final group this past weekend and I think caddying for any top player in that final group on Sunday would be awesome.
