Quick 9: Andrea Gatti – Castelconturbia Golf Club

Located an hour’s drive north of Milan, in the County of Conturbia near a seventeenth-century castle, Castelconturbia Golf Club opened for play in 1984. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, it’s one of Italy’s most challenging courses, with three nine-hole loops and a number of different playing combinations.

We were fortunate to find a free moment in the busy schedule of Andrea Gatti, Chief Operations at Castelconturbia, to fire off our latest round of Quick 9 questions.

He shared stories of his lifelong love for the game and how his course is using technology to optimize operations and provide an exceptional player experience.

How would you describe your morning routine to kickstart your day?

A good breakfast and a warm hug for my son and my wife are what is needed to start the day right.

Has golf always been your first love? What other sports/teams are you a fan of?

Golf has always been a great passion of mine, first as a player from 10 to 18 years with a 1-handicap and then as a job as soon as I came of age. In one way or another, I have been living the world of golf for 23 years.

Tell us about your role at Castelconturbia Golf Club? Why is it important?

I take care of the sporting part, starting from the competition calendar, moving on to the organization of events and following the operations of the course and the organization of tee times through collaborators, starters and marshals.

It is a 360° commitment to the club’s operations and also promotion through social networks.

Why has your course decided to invest in Tagmarshal?

We believe that Tagmarshal is a great tool for checking game times on courses like ours where, over 27 holes, we need to monitor the progress of the players both in and outside the tournament.

This also allows us to verify the addition of tee times following a maximum playing time that is given to all players. Marshals can immediately attend to slower teams by requesting they get back in position.

Since the implementation of the Tagmarshal system, how have your customers responded to the on-course experience?

The players immediately saw the importance of implementing this at the club and have come on board with a lot of collaboration. Fighting slow play is something that fascinates golfers all over the world.

Describe Tagmarshal in three words.

Intuitive, Genious, Effective.

What is your dream golf destination? Why?

Without a doubt Scotland, where golf has a very rich and important history.

Your best golf moment?

When I broke the course record at my first home club, 69 in a tournament and 66 in practice (par 72).

If you could be a caddie on Tour, whose caddie would you like to be and why?

Certainly for Rory McIlroy, my favorite golfer – a pro on and off the course.
